Four local performers are pulling out all stops to pool their talents for a concert to aid the people of Haiti.
The Haiti Earthquake Relief Concert will be staged at Tenterfield’s School of the Arts next Thursday, February 11, from 7.30pm, with every cent of takings going to the Red Cross Haiti appeal, according to co-organiser Georgie Chorley.
The fundraiser will be run under the auspices of the local Red Cross branch, with workers on hand to serve supper and to act as ushers. The multi-talented Miss Chorley will perform on vocals, trumpet and piano, her mum Julie Chorley as well as Chris Markham will be on vocals with Grant Ovenden also on piano.
“It’s a great opportunity for the people of Tenterfield to help those people who need so much support,” Mrs Chorley said.
Mr Markham and Mr Ovenden were already in rehearsal in Mrs Chorley’s music room for another event when she had the idea for the concert, so she roped them in.
“It would be hard to put together a performance in two weeks if things weren’t already happening,” Mrs Chorley said.
The group has no goals as to how much they want to raise.
“Just as much as possible,” Mrs Chorley said.
There’ll be a donation box on site, plus contributions of wine, meat trays and other goods will be up for grabs. The Red Cross will also be operating a street stall the next day, with the raffles drawn at the end of the day.
“The Tenterfield Shire Council is donating the use of its wonderful facility,” Mrs Chorley said.
“It’s a great venue, with many performers saying it’s the best they’ve ever worked in.”
The organisers promise a night of jazz, blues, ballads, classical and contemporary selections, all in aid of a good cause.
The School of Arts’ Christine Foster said tickets for the concert were available at the box office and advised concertgoers to purchase tickets early to guarantee their favourite seats.
