Seven of Tenterfield’s finest little known singers will hit the stage this week to share their flair with the town and raise a maraca in salute to one of Tenterfield’s greatest performers in the culmination of the Wintersong project.
The performers will take part in a Peter Allen tribute concert this Thursday at the School of Arts to mark the 39th anniversary of Allen’s New York solo debut and showcase the final result of workshops with local performer Barry Patterson.
Made up of retirees, primary schoolers and people of various ages in between, the singers have drawn from a diverse range of influences to pick the song they will perform.
Mr Patterson said the diversity of the performers’ backgrounds, styles and inspiration was one of Wintersong’s strongest assets.
“One of the nicest things about Wintersong’s participants is the repertoire available. We’ve got classical, pop, country, gospel, stage ... I’m really impressed with the talent of performers, there is a lot of promise on stage here,” Mr Patterson said.
With tickets close to selling out, organisers are encouraging anybody serious about seeing the concert to get in quick and show their support for the event.
“The main thing is to come along and support the local talent. If we want Wintersong to become a feature for the town, they really need to support it,” Mr Patterson said.
