Tenterfield's $6.7 million sewerage upgrade is set to almost triple the capacity of the current sewerage plant and cater for the needs of the town’s growing population until 2030.

Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay inspected the plant on Tuesday saying, “I’m very, very pleased about this project and I think Tenterfield is a growing community and the council’s been very proactive in seeking 50 per cent matching funding between Council and State Government to complete this major infrastructure work.”

Mayor of Tenterfield Shire Toby Smith was likewise pleased with the progress of the work.

“I’m very, very pleased with the productivity of the contractors and council operators in what they’ve achieved in such a short time. The only problem they’ve encountered is some unexpected rock, which cost some $20,000 more to remove.”

The project began on April 10 and the council is confident it will be completed by mid-May 2009.
