WOODCHOP events have been cancelled from this year’s Tenterfield Show because of a clash with the Uralla Show and a lack of entries.
Sue Jurd, Tenterfield Show Society secretary, said the show society had no choice but to cancel the event due to a lack of interest and said pig races would replace the event at its scheduled time.
The woodchop had been planned to return to the show this year for the first time since 2006.
Mrs Jurd said she thought the cancellation would not affect attendance numbers and, with high numbers of entrants in other events, great support from local businesses and an expanded trade area, she feels things are boding well for this year’s show. Entries in the cattle dog trails and sheep dog trails have already closed, and the campdraft has been filled to capacity.
“There’s lots of interest in the ring events, the stables are almost booked out so we’re expecting to get a lot of horses, there’s good entries in the rodeo for both nights... the show’s looking good,” Mrs Jurd said.
The junior showgirl competition has again proven a winner in its second year with a mixture of returning girls and new participants taking part.
Mrs Jurd said the event would likely become a feature event for the Tenterfield Show because of its continuing success.
She said there was a variety of interests on offer for rural and townspeople of all ages and hoped the community would back up the business support.
Members’ tickets are still available until tomorrow, Thursday, February 4.
