It all came down to the final minute in the AG Requirements Regional Basketball League in a tight reserve grade grand final between the Warwick Wildcats and the Tenterfield Bullets.
The Wildcats were aiming to make ARRBL history by becoming the only team in any grade to win three consecutive regional championships in a row. The Bullets aimed to finally top a team that beat them by one point each time they met during the season.
The teams fought it out in a low scoring match and the young Bullets side was in the running until the very final minute - until a Wildcats player scored a quick four points and nudged out their opposition.
The Bullets lost by six points 37-31.
David Wild top scored for the Bullets with 12 points to his name, Matthew Murphy close behind him with 10.
Tenterfield Bullets coach Jason Ash said the team played a strong season and was looking to take the top spot next year.
“It looked like this was our year, but the shots started rimming out and Warwick made a few big buckets and the rest was history,” he said.
“Well done boys on a great season and look out next year.”
The Academy Basketball presentation dinner will be held tonight at the Tenterfield Bowling Club.
