Numbers down at bowls carnival

01 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
UNFORTUNATELY, weather played havoc with our annual carnival on the weekend.

The selectors were forced to make an early decision to cancel the fours on Saturday to prevent teams travelling long distances for nothing if the rain set in and play had to be abandoned.

This proved to be the correct decision.

However, Sunday play went ahead in spite of the drizzle and occasional heavier shower. Most teams seemed happy with the day.

Thanks to president Max, his helper Graham and the three selectors Mogan, Don and Ian who put in many hours and worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the carnival.

Overall winners were Evans Head, Stanthorpe second, Kallenger third, Glen Innes fourth and Warwick who finished in fifth place.

Round winners went to Tenterfield and Evans Head.

In other matters, B. Tribe is the 2012 singles champion after defeating B. Marshal 25-14 - congratulations Bruce.

Ladies matters - The first round of championship singles will be played today.

More names are needed for the P and M Day on February 15. Ladies please check the roster for times and duties on the day.

A discussion to finalise future meetings will take place in the ladies room after bowls on February 8.

Names for bowls next week must be in by 9.30am.

A special mention must be made of Margaret and her merry band of helpers who prepared and organised a delicious lunch, at very short notice for everyone on Sunday - well done ladies.

Enjoy bowls everyone.

Don Lewis and Elaine Maguire
