Zac was presented with the award for Excellence in Student Achievement last week by the NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Tertiary Education and Skills, Mark Speakman after it had been signed off on by NSW Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli.
Zac said he was thrilled to be one of 31 in the state to be presented with the achievement.
“I’m really, really humbled to get it,” he said.
“I think Mr Willis [Tenterfield High School principal] said there were around 60,000 year 12 students in the state.”
The awards acknowledge outstanding performance in a range of areas including academics, sport and cultural achievement, contribution to the school community and leadership skills.
“I think it shows you don’t need to be in the city to achieve and go a long way,” he said.
“It also showcases Tenterfield as a great school that provides opportunities.”
Zac thanked the school’s staff and his parents and family for their ongoing support and for “helping to teach and shape” him.
Mr Willis said the award was well deserved.
“Zac is an outstanding young man with impeccable manners, respect for all people and who has the total respect of all members of the school community,” Mr Willis said.
“He is a highly motivated student who thoroughly deserves this award.
“He has worked tirelessly to help all students, staff and community members and has willingly given of his time and of himself to do this.”
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall also welcomed the news.
He said Zac had demonstrated a mature and conscientious approach to all his studies at Tenterfield High School.
“An accomplished sportsman, Zac is a two-time cross country champion and Oxley House captain,” Mr Marshall said.
“A keen agriculture student, he has represented his school at the Northern Steers Competition, Tenterfield Beef Bonanza, The Royal Brisbane Show and Tenterfield Show.
“Zac offers his time as a volunteer with the Rural Fire Service and demonstrates high level student leadership as school captain.”
