MORE than 100 veteran golfers descended on Tenterfield Golf Course last week to take part in the annual Veterans Week of Golf.
The golfers represented over 50 clubs between Mackay and Sydney.
Event organiser Phil Ainsworth said the local players did their best to give the visitors a taste of Tenterfield hospitality as well as provide them with some strong competition on the course.
“It is a huge event for Tenterfield, absolutely huge.” Mr Ainsworth said
“Outside of the national parks, the golf club would have to be one of Tenterfield’s biggest tourist attractions.”
Nev and Denise Hay from Brisbane said they had come to Tenterfield to play in the Vets competition for the past eight years and always enjoyed their stay.
“It is the best week of golf we play,” Mrs Hay said.
“The course is great and the people are so lovely, we just love coming here.”
For Peter and Pam Brown, the week is as much about socialising as it is about golf.
