Tenterfield soccer: battling the elements

Under grey and threatening skies, most divisions in soccer were playing short as children not only battled cold conditions but colds and flus.

In the 5/6 years division, the Rangers played the Wolves with great games by Harrison Finnerty and Amelia Sheppard for the Wolves, and Oska Zappa and Jed McCowan showing improved ball skills throughout the game.

In the 7/8 years division, the first game saw the Rangers have a closely-fought win over the Mohawks 3-2. In the second game the Pirates had a good win over the Wolves 4-1.

Goals were scored by Will Holley (3) and Dan Murphy (1) for the Pirates and Darcy Roots for the Wolves.

In the 9/10 years division, the Trojans had an extremely close win over the Mohawks 2-1. The score was 1-1 for most of the second half until Luke Pitkin scored his second goal close to full time. Isaac Jones scored the Mohawks goal.

In the second game, the Wolves came out victors against the Rangers 6-2 with the score not a true indication of how close the game really was. Wolves goals were kicked by Katie McQuirk (2), John Cusack (2), Peter Thompson (1) and Max Murphy (1), which really shows what a great team effort it was. Dylan Landon-Beer scored a great goal for the Rangers.

In the senior division, the Trojans had a close win over the Mohawks 4-3. There were great goals by Joshua Bates (2), Zeph McBurney (1) and Luke Smith (1) for the Trojans and Dylan Smith, Georgia O'Neill and Blair McIntyre for the Mohawks. In what was a close game the coach broke his pencil with the excitement!

In the second game the Wolves won against the Rangers 4-2. Goals were scored by Dylan Sutcliffe (2), Claudia Williamson (1) and William Smith (1) for the Wolves and Elliot Williamson (1) and Jaiden Bess (1) for the Rangers.

Due to the Queen's Birthday long weekend there will be no soccer played this Saturday. Games resume on Saturday, June 16.
