A FEW new hands have gone up to add their names to those who will contest Tenterfield Shire Council positions on September 8.
Larry Valentine, and Graham Foan have said their names will be on the ballot paper along with Peter Harmond and sitting councillors Peter Petty, John Macnish, Tom Peters and Brian Murray, who have already announced their intention to run.
Sitting Tenterfield Shire councillor Mike Petrie also confirmed last week he would run again.
Nominations for councillor positions open on Monday, July 30 and will close at noon on Wednesday, August 8.
Mr Valentine said he wanted to see more consensus within council.
“Every time you turn around there are arguments about this and that and the other,” he said.
“It seems no one wants to come to an agreement.”
He said councillors needed to get on with the job rather than “carry on like children as they do in parliament”.
Cr Petrie said he believed it took at least one term to understand the workings of council.
He said he was hoping to take part in the next term in council and said he had a lot of faith in council’s new general manager Lotta Jackson.
