Maddy off to represent Australia in Asian Cup

Two Tenterfield grandmothers are bursting with pride on the news that their granddaughter Maddy Richie has been selected for the under 21s Australian country women’s hockey team.

Eunice Richey and Shirley Binge are thrilled that Maddy, now living in Grafton but a regular visitor to Tenterfield with her parents Malcolm and Raelene, will be travelling to Fiji in December as part of the Australian team to take part in the Asian Cup. Maddy’s grandfather Don Richey passed away last year but other granddad Neville Binge is also in Tenterfield.

Maddy played in the NSW Country team that took out the Australian country hockey titles played recently in Bendigo, bringing her talent to the attention of selectors. She has also competed at the national level in the under 18 division in both 2010 and 2011.
