‘HEALTHY Land; Resilient Communities’ is the title of this year’s Landcare adventure. The annual two-day event rotates between one of the five Landcare networks in the New England North West and this year it is hosted in Glen Innes by GLENRAC on March 19-20.

Focussing on the various aspects of healthy land - soil, pastures, vegetation, water and management- and the relationship between healthy land and resilient communities, the event could be interesting for landholders and community members from across the region.
Open to all, including members and non-members of Landcare, town residents, farmers, government agency staff, students and community groups, the organisation said the weekend would provide plenty of opportunities to network with like-minded people.
The first day takes place at the Glen Innes showground and provides a schedule filled with talks and skills sessions by industry specialists as Bart Davidson (InformAg), holistic farming educator and practitioner Garry McDouall, research agronomist Carol Harris, and Inverell’s Meg Perceval (Farmlink).
Key note speakers of the day are Terry McCosker, the father of cell grazing in Australia and Rural Woman of the Year 2013 Isobel Knight, who owns a succession planning business focussed on landholders.
Sam Bailey is the guest speaker at the Adventure Dinner Saturday night at the Glen Innes Golf Club. Sam is a farmer, pilot, husband, best-selling author and quadriplegic. He will tell his story in his own down-to-earth laconic style capturing the great Australian spirit of ‘having a go’.
He will also present the Landcare Awards that night. Sunday the participants will be shown around at the NSW Department of Primary Industries Research Station, two privately owned farms, and given a tour at the Rangers Valley Feedlot.
The event is highly funded by various organisations and costs only $100 per person. This includes accommodation, dinner and bus transfers to the properties on Sunday. Dinner-only tickets are available for $40.
