Nearly 300 riders from NSW and Queensland descended on the Tenterfield Showgrounds on Saturday and Sunday with one of the event’s organisers hailing it a big success.
“It went really, really well,” Libby Sharpe from the Tenterfield Pony Club said.
As part of the Zone 13 team, competitors from Tenterfield took to their home turf and didn’t disappoint.
Zone 13 entered a team of 37 Riders with 12 from Tenterfield.
Adam Clothier, Paige Koch, Shania Koch, Jacob Thomas, Emily Butler, Chloe Butler, Georgia O’Neill, Jacob Cox, Anna Willcocks, Emmi Lewis, Zac Liebermann and Jackson Kings did Tenterfield proud according to Ms Sharpe.
“Everyone from Tenterfield, that competed, did very well,” she said.
Local participants were able to familiarise themselves with the ring in advance, following a weekend of training in March.
Day one included bending, barrel and flag races while the second day was set aside for a full day of campdrafting action.
President of the Tenterfield Pony Club Jamie O’Neill said he was proud of the work done by the committee leading up to and after the event.
“It went brilliantly, ran well, the kids were happy and there weren’t any complaints,” he said.
“As president I’m very proud of the club members who got together and stuck together.
“After all the hard work it ended up running well due to all the work of the committee members,” he said.
Leading up to the event organisers were concerned that they wouldn’t see as many competitors as anticipated.
However, Ms Sharpe said they were pleased with the amount of nominations they received.
The sun shone and travellers took in the sights with Ms Sharpe saying local events such as the championships were great for local industry.
“We had a lot of visitors from out of town with most arriving Thursday and leaving Sunday – it was probably very good for local businesses,” she said.
