Mr Marshall said he was a 'bloody idiot' after he was caught drink-driving on Friday night
The Member for Northern Tablelands was charged after he was stopped by police in Glen Innes on Friday night and returned a mid-range blood alcohol limit.
In a statement to the media, Mr Marshall said he had been in Glen Innes with locals and friends before getting behind the wheel.
“I deeply regret my actions.
“Although I thought I was okay to drive, I wasn't. I drank and drove – I was a bloody idiot.
“I would like to sincerely apologise to the community, my friends and family for my actions.”
The 29-year-old MP said if any good comes from it, he hoped it was a clear message to others – if you drink and drive you will get caught.
“This is now a legal matter before the court and I am prepared to accept the consequences of my actions.
“I have informed the Premier and Deputy Premier that I will be resigning my positions as Temporary Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Deputy Chair of the State and Regional Development Committee.
“In the meantime, I will continue to work as hard as ever for the people of Northern Tablelands and carry on my work advancing our issues and needs.”
