To be selected you had to be under 35kg and under 10 years old. The Macintyre team consists of an area from Millmerran, Inglewood, Tenterfield, Pittsworth and Goondiwindi.
The 5 day carnival was hosted by the Balonne Barwon club in St George. No chance of escaping the cold as it followed us out to St George.
The boys played 7 games all up. Day 1 saw convincing wins against Charleville and Cunnamulla. Day 2 they were narrowly beaten by Roma and Western Downs.
Day 3 saw them play the home team Balonne Barwon with Macintyre leading the game the whole way and Balonne scoring in the last minute to steal a win. This was a fabulous game.
That afternoon they had an Athletics carnival which included sprint races vs your other number, tug-o-war and ball games.
Braith Clark was the fastest number seven at the carnival diving over the line to win the race. Day 4 they played the highly skilled, drilled and unbeaten Wynnum team who also beat us.
They found our defence very hard to break with the coach telling us he had to change the game plan to be able to break through. Day 5 we had an early frosty game against Central Downs. Another close game but Central ended up winning this one also.
Fletcher and Braith were selected from all the teams to play in the East team which versed the West team in the final representative game. Fletcher continued his great kicking in a new position as a winger.
The boys all played really well the whole week. It is very tiring playing 7 games of football in a week but they made Tenterfield and the Border Bears proud with their conduct and performance on and off the field.
Braith was a stand out in defence making tackle after tackle, Fletcher played a good controlled kicking game backed up with good defence. The centre pairing of Luke and Will continually troubled the defence with their running and pace.
The boys would like to thank the Border Bears committee for giving them the opportunity to play and for sponsoring them. We are sure this experience will give the boys greater confidence and experience as they finish out the season with the Bears.
