The clinic, held at the Tenterfield Campdraft grounds, was a great opportunity to learn from one of the sport’s most knowledgeable horsemen.
The weekend was started off with dry work, getting the horses supple and working on getting the basics correct before bringing a cow into the equation.
The riders then worked their horses on the mechanical cow, which allowed them to work on their timing and position on the cow, while being able to stop and start it when needed to work on any problems at a slower pace.
We were lucky enough to have access to cattle for the weekend, which meant that after developing a correct foundation during the dry work and on the mechanical cow the riders were able to put what they had learnt into practice on the real thing.
They were also able to work on correctly and safely positioning themselves in relation to the cow once out of the camp and on course.
A big thankyou must go to Mark Buttsworth for sharing his knowledge with us, the owners of the cattle (Gary Holley, Brian Smith, and George Mulherin) and to everyone who organised and helped out over the weekend.
It was a great weekend, with everyone learning heaps and enjoying themselves.
