After being narrowly beaten in last year’s semi-final game, the Tigers are itching to get on the paddock in front of a bumper home crowd.
The rivalry between the two clubs will be stoked again with the Tigers ‘Old Boys Day’ coinciding with the big match-up on Saturday.
Men’s captain/coach Brendan Minns said his side would benefit from having ex-players lining the sideline but hoped his team would be up for the encounter anyway.
“If games like these don’t get you going then I don’t know what would."
- Brendan Minns, Tigers captain/coach
The Tenterfield side has had a poor run in to the finals with a thumping victory against an under-manned and under-performing Wallangarra team two weeks ago.
They followed that up with another game on the weekend against the Rams and notched up 60 points in the first half before the game was called off.
“They were down to less than nine players by half-time – it’s just disappointing, I think they did the best they could though.
“We ran in 11 tries in 40 minutes, we let them in for one which was disappointing,” he said.
Tigers players Danny Loneragan and Floyd Oxford suffered injuries in the game but will be monitored leading into this weekend.
The ladies league tag side won 44 – 4 and will also use this week to prepare for their own semi-final match up against Texas.
“The girls are definitely keen for a big game,” Minns said.
Minns said he expected a really stern test from the Gremlins who have been on the up and up in recent weeks.
They swept aside Killarney over the weekend with a 28 – 18 win.
The biggest threats could come from two former Tigers, who rather than be there for the Old Boys Day, will line up against their old side.
“I think their strengths could be off the back of Geoff Swan’s play making skills and Damian Petrie’s leadership,” Minns said.
“If we play well as a team and keep structures we’ll score points,” he said.
The girls kick off proceedings from 1.30pm while the men’s game will get underway from 2.30pm.
