SIXTEEN Tenterfield community organisations have benefitted from $12,400 of grants from the Tenterfield Bowling Club under a financial assistance scheme.

Due to the club’s turnover not being as large as other’s they supplied the funding from their own intake.
“We do it off our own backs,” Bowling Club general manager Michael Jones said.
“The only reason we do it is for the community."

Mr Jones said some years ago he would receive ongoing letters from various groups who required assistance.
That pushed him to start up this scheme last year, giving away a bit over $13,000 in 2013.
An independent panel of three people is brought in to vet each application.
All sixteen groups who applied were granted funding assistance.
Mr Jones said he was proud to give back to the community and envisioned the scheme would continue for some time.
“I see it going every year – it will be ongoing,” he said.
