Both sides started strongly with plenty of end to end play as Tenterfield looked to edge their way into the game.
Going into the tussle, Tenterfield held a mental edge over their opponents having been the only side to beat them all year.
Tenterfield were quick on the counter and unlucky not to finish off a few gifted opportunities.
With scores locked at one a piece, the game went in to extra time.
Despite a number of chances falling to each side nobody was able to break the deadlock and the game entered into penalties.
Tenterfield goalkeeper Elizabeth Hollitt showed why she was voted Representative Player of the Year by holding out the Ballandean girls.
“I used to take mattresses down to training to try and get her to dive – she didn’t used to like it,” colts and men’s coach Stan Hickey said.
The Thunder girls only needed to convert three penalties to Ballandean’s one to win the encounter.
In the days other games at the Stanthorpe International Club, Warwick beat Stanthorpe United comfortably in the colts while the Stanthorpe United men’s side left Warwick red-faced with a 6 – 1 victory.
On Sunday the Tenterfield colt’s team played Ballandean in the third and fourth placed minor semi-final.
“Neither side played well, both just kept putting pressure on each other – it’s become a real grudge match,” coach Stan Hickey said.
“Our intensity was good from the start – our biggest nemesis this season has been the slow starts."

As the game wore on goals began to flow.
Tenterfield got the last laugh though, winning the match 4 – 3.
“There were a couple of real freaky goals,” Hickey said.
Jake Brown notched a brace while Dylan Turner and Dominic Pelusi got a goal each.
“It was a game based more on aggression then technicality – it was all a bit of a scramble,” Hickey said.
The win means they will now play Stanthorpe United at Ballandean this coming Saturday at 12.30pm.
The other games will pit Stanthorpe United against Ballandean in the girls clash while home side Ballandean will face Warwick in a repeat of last season’s preliminary men’s final.
