Fellow show coordinator Val Melling was among more than 150 exhibitors to attend the show and said, while the awards may have gone to champion green thumbs around town, the Tenterfield Preschool Kindergarten stole the show with their unique succulent exhibits.
The local youngsters showed off their talents for growing fine floral specimens, presenting a great array of succulents in gumboots and shoes making for a unique and eye-catching exhibit that had visiting Guyra judges Dot Vickery and Mavis Ridley rapt.
The show attracted a great roll up of visitors, according to Ms Melling who recorded 71 attendees through the doors and said it was a great turn-out for exhibitors after a tough year.
“People were saying that there wouldn’t be any flowers with the drought and wind and the rain that we’ve had, but we did so well with a variety of flowers,” she said.
Ms Melling said the show went a good way to promoting the competition around the New England Region, with the flower show committee picking up three new active members on Saturday.
“We were pleased with the involvement particularly with the new members, we’re trying to encourage more members,” she said.
With a long list of local winners, visit the Tenterfield Star website for a full list of results and awards, including champion Daffodil grower Tom Short who said it only takes one flower to make a champion.
