Close to 80 competitors congregated for the yearly meet with Granite Belt Physie Club’s coach Rachel Sanders hailing it a big success.
“It was really awesome – we’ve never had that many at a club competition here,” she said.
Ranging from three-year-olds through to open ladies, placing’s were hotly contested.
“The judges commented how well the kids are doing given some have only been at it for a year or two,” Rachel said.
The event, now in its third year, drew judges from Brisbane and has grown from year to year with around 60 turning up for last year’s competition.
With zone competitions at the forefront of their minds, Rachel said the event was ideal preparation for the upcoming meets in Tamworth and Coffs Harbour.
“It was good practice,” she said.
Ms Sanders said they will take 64 competitors and nine teams to the Tamworth event which is held for junior participants.
The following weekend will see the older contingent vie for first places at Coffs Harbour.
“We have 15 ladies and two teams of ladies for the one in Coffs Harbour,” Rachel said.
At the weekend’s event Jemma Sutcliffe won first place in junior marching and Fiona Zappa took the top spot in senior marching.
Montana McCorry won the club dance award, Jessica O’Rourke and Amy-Lee Innes both won judges awards while Jayda Hill took out the top prize as the club champion for 2014.
