8.50am: STUDENTS, trainees and apprentices from across the New England region have shone at the nation’s largest skill and trade showcase, returning to Tamworth yesterday with a medal haul worthy of a team twice the size.

A MAN accused of murdering a Tamworth environmental compliance officer will remain behind bars until at least next month.
Ian Robert Turnbull did not appear in Moree Local Court yesterday but remains bail refused, under close guard in a maximum-security correctional centre.
During the brief mention yesterday morning, the crown applied for an eight-week adjournment as it waits to examine specialist forensic evidence from the scene of the alleged murder. The adjournment was granted by magistrate Michael O’Brien.

Followers of Islam have grave concerns they will face ignorance and fear following Palmer United Party senator Jacqui Lambie’s explosive comments linking terrorism and sharia law, in the wake of last week’s anti-terror raids.
Karar Hussain – a Shiite Muslim who fled Pakistan two years ago and now resides in Tamworth – said Islam is a religion of peace and terrorist attacks are not inherently linked to the faith.

Bindaree Beef has signed a new contract to airfreight shelf-ready beef cuts to supermarket chains in China.
The contract was signed on Wednesday in Shanghai by Tim Sullivan, China manager for Bindaree Beef/Sanger, who is participating in a trade mission with Minister of Agriculture Barnaby Joyce.
