The ladies league tag side still has plenty to cheer about following their finals victory but the men could be forgiven for wanting to look ahead rather than back.
Both sides converged on Rugby League Park’s clubhouse on Saturday night for their end of season presentation night formalities.
While a number of players walked away with some accolades on the night, another group were still chuffed with their individual competition awards.
The Border Rugby League rewarded Tigers player Jim Loneragan heralding him 2014’s player of the year.
It’s been a stellar year for Loneragan who also represented the Border Bushrangers, South-West Country side before representing Queensland’s Outback side at a competition at Thursday Island.
It’s his fourth season with the Tigers having previously turned out for the Warwick Cowboys in the TRL.
“It was definitely well deserved – he played extremely well throughout the season."
- Coach, Brendan Minns
Farron Anderson was awarded for most tries, Brendan Minns won coach of the year and Jesse Murphy was acknowledged as colt of the year after an excellent season.
“It puts a little bit of a shine on the end of the season getting the award – it’s good to know the effort has been recognised.
“Without a doubt Jesse deserved his – after playing in the under 19’s Outback side it’s definitely a credit to him,” Minns said.
Still in Year 12, Jesse performed week in week out and came back brimming with confidence following representative footy.
“It was a big privilege getting to play representative footy with Outback Queensland,” Jesse said.
“It gave me a major confidence boost being able to get involved in that – it was all really professional and taken very seriously.
“It was a great experience,” he said.
His coach will be hopeful of retaining his services for next season following his break out season in A-Grade.
“If I’m able to play for the Tigers or the Bushrangers or Outback side again then I wouldn’t think twice – this year was a unique experience,” he said.
In the ladies league tag Megg Landers won player of the year, Ashleigh Taylor scored the most points and Wayne Minns won coach of the year.
Club president Brendan Minns said it was a good way to cap off a successful season.
“There was still a little disappointment there for us guys but all the girls were there and got dressed up and were still really happy after their win.
“Everyone is now focusing on next year,” he said.
