Tenterfield Senior Constable Ash Ray said they were following a number of leads in their investigation.
“Police investigations are ongoing with several avenues of investigations currently being conducted,” Senior Constable Ray said.
“It is unfortunate that these types of incidents occur in such beautiful little community.”
The officer said people needed be mindful of what was left in cars.
“Tenterfield police urge the community to keep their personal items and property secure and be mindful of leaving valuable items such as, loose change, handbags, wallets, and electronic devices out of sight or indoors when their house or vehicles are left unattended.
“The majority of property theft related crimes are opportunistic in nature, if we as the community can take that opportunity away, it will go a long way towards preventing further such incidents,” Senior Constable Ray said.
Roxanne Bancroft-Stuart was one of six victims of the thief and pressed other people to keep their valuables close.
“I had a considerable amount of money stolen – don’t leave anything lying around in your car,” she said.
Ms Bancroft-Stuart said it was rare for her to leave her car parked on the street and said the theft was simply a crime of opportunity.
“I never leave my car out in the street – if it can happen to me it can happen to anyone,” she said.
