Tenterfield Social Development Committee celebrated their 25 year anniversary on Monday with staff coming together for the occasion.
Team leader Karen Mooney said she was hopeful the service would continue to help and engage the community for a further 25 years.
“It’s a service that is really needed in the community – while it’s done quietly, it is something the town needs,” she said.
While the Youth Connections department led by Bec Ford is set to be cut in December, Ms Mooney said the rest of their support areas would remain.
The group got their start in 1989 when they operated out of the old CWA building on Molesworth St.
It begun with four workers committed to the cause who helped shape the initial steps of reaching into the community.
Helen Duroux, Joanne Hoffmann, Carl McGrady and Maree Daly were the first team when they were simply known as Tenterfield Family Support Service.
Further down the track they incorporated youth services into the portfolio.
Over 60 committee members have since worked within the group or remain there today.
“The committee, past and present, have been key to us staying around,” Ms Mooney said.
