Tenterfield police sergeant Michael Eaton said police were investigating a number of incidents of vehicles being broken into and valuables stolen over the past week.
Police believe the thefts were committed by the same group operating mostly in the early hours of the morning, targeting vehicles around the local area and as far afield as Wallangarra.
Sgt. Eaton said it is believed the group were also responsible for the theft of a Subaru Brumby last week which they used to travel around the local area before abandoning the vehicle at Federation Park.
He said in some instances targeted vehicles have been unlocked, while in others perpetrators have broken windows to gain entry to the vehicles.
In another incident, one local business owner fell victim to a break and enter last week.
The business’ owner said the offenders smashed glass panels in the front entrance to gain entry to the property looking for cash and valuables. He said it was not the first time the business has been targeted, with a number of similar incidents over previous years.
Offenders left empty handed last week, with no cash kept on site, the owner said.
Police have encouraged residents to be vigilant and to report suspicious activity to the Tenterfield Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
