Following on from the success of a walk to protest violence in Tenterfield last month, Gail Galloway from the Community Hub said the next week would be used to continue raising awareness.
“Women can say as much as they want about it but the thing with breaking the mould is the push has to really come from men,” she said.
“We want men to call it out.”
Ms Galloway said they were encouraging businesses to get on board by wearing a white ribbon next Tuesday.
The Hub has dispersed pamphlets into the community which encourages people to make an oath against violence.
“We’ll be making a wall of honour at the Hub – it’s simple, men who want to make a stand just have to fill them out and bring them to us,” Ms Galloway said.
She said support from sporting clubs and pubs as well as the wider community was pivotal in promoting the cause.
Reported incidences of domestic violence have steadily grown across NSW and have reached a 15-year high.
Figures from the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research show, on average, 94 domestic violence assaults were reported to police each day.
Annual crime data released earlier this year showed a 1.9 per cent rise in domestic violence related assaults in the past five years.
While in Tenterfield, domestic violence was the second highest reported crime from June 2013 to June 2014.
The domestic violence walk attracted over 50 participants late last month and Ms Galloway said they were already looking ahead to next year for a similar event.
“It was a really promising start – I don’t know if you can measure any sort of change immediately and you’re not going to change attitudes overnight.
She said they would eagerly wait for statistics to be released next year to quantify whether a difference had been made.
