As of Tuesday Tenterfield had received 92mm of rain over the first nine days of December with a monthly average of 104.7mm.
The town was battered by storms and heavy rainfall on Thursday, December 4 as 34mm fell in the one downpour.
Trees were downed and a number of homes suffered from power outages but Tenterfield’s SES was kept relatively quiet.
“We’ve only had one call out so far,” SES volunteer Caron Miller said.
She said Tenterfield’s bout with floods in recent years had encouraged people to act in securing their households.
“A lot of people since then have done lots of work – ultimately we’d like to do ourselves out of a job,” Ms Miller said.
Tenterfield Creek rose substantially on Thursday and took with it a large section of fencing from the Tenterfield High School rear.
The rain is expected to continue with heavy widespread falls predicted later in the week.
“Thursday and Friday there is a high chance of rain and thunderstorms,” Michael Glasson from the Bureau of Meteorology said.
“The trough in Northern NSW is expected to deepen in response to the approaching upper level system,” he said.
Mr Glasson said 10-35mm is predicted tomorrow while there could be anywhere between 15 and 45mm on Friday.
Temperatures are set to drop over the weekend with more rainfall predicted before things fine up on Monday.
“Hopefully the rain is a sign of things to come,” he said.
Despite the welcome turn in weather Mr Glasson said we could still expect a hotter than usual summer period.
