January 31 will see two local representative sides face off against Toowoomba based National Premier League outfit South West Thunder.
Tenterfield will be strongly represented in the ladies with five girls picked to play.
Liz Hollitt, Amy and Alana Condrick, Ellen Counter and Mikaela Sullivan from Tenterfield will face off against a South West side that will likely include fellow Tenterfield girl Angela Potter.
The ladies squad has been training regularly since November last year under Coaches Neil Newman and Frank Arcidiacono in preparation for their match against a powerful Thunder team.
“The girls will certainly have their work cut out for them against Thunder but it will be a great experience for the squad, especially the younger players, in preparation for the zone championships which Stanthorpe was close to winning in 2014,” Steve McEvoy from Football Stanthorpe said.
“I know Frank and Neil are very impressed with the attitude of the players who have committed to the squad – now that the holiday break is over the girls will really be training hard leading into this game,” he said.
Despite some standout performances throughout 2014 from a number of players, the men’s rep side will feature nobody from the Tenterfield men’s team.
Ballandean coach Anthony Rametta has been handed the manager’s job for the men’s side.
With question marks over Warwick's involvement in this seasons competition, no players were picked from the club to represent the men's side.
The off-field drama forced a rethink from selectors who were unable to rely on Warwick players who played an integral role in last seasons representative football.
It means a number of new faces will get their opportunity to take the field for Football Stanthorpe.
The men’s game will kick off at 2.30pm with the ladies due to start at 4.30pm at Ballandean.
“This will be another strong promotion for the code to commence 2015,” McEvoy said.
