Wrapping up last Wednesday following three-days of action the annual event attracted close to 60 participants.
Some made a seven hour journey to take part in the event that is reaching new heights in its eleventh outing.
One name that is synonymous with Australian golfing is Charlie Earp and he was on hand to run the kids through their paces.
“The depth and improvement that I’ve seen over the years has been tremendous.”
Mr Earp, Royal Queensland’s head professional for a forty-year period, has been coming to Tenterfield for the event since its inception.
“This event is a credit to the town – the people are so nice, but I’m in interested in the kids and they’ve been wonderful to work with.
“I get a kick out of seeing their growth, it’s the reason I keep coming,” Charlie said.
Getting tips from a man who nurtured the best golfer the country has produced isn’t something to treat lightly.
He had nothing but praise for the organisers of the event and the golf club itself.
“They do great work – you never hear anyone from anywhere knocking the club.
“We need to see more tournaments like this happening.”
He said junior golf across NSW needed greater state and local government support if it was to expand.
In spite of that he’s excited by what he saw over the course of last week and believes there could be future professionals in the mix.
“Christ yeah there is some potential there – definitely, without a doubt,” Mr Earp said.
Local juniors will now prepare for Tenterfield’s next junior event to be held in October.
