A planned fundraiser at Stanthorpe’s Kilpa St park has been scrapped after Southern Downs Regional Council said the time in which to obtain a liquor license for the event would prove too difficult.
As a result Stanthorpe’s Top Pub will host an event on Sunday, February 1.
There will be live music, jumping castle, face painting, barbecue lunch, bush poetry along with auctions of items donated by supporting businesses.
Publicans will also be asked to donate $1 from every drink sold on the day that will run from 10am -10pm.
The devastating fire tore through the residence in the early hours of Sunday, January 18 and left nothing.
It claimed the house, contents and a car with nobody home at the time of the fire.
Mother Leanne and son Ethan were in Sydney while the woman’s 16-year-old daughter was staying with friends in Stanthorpe.
Liston resident John Howard has been helping set up a fund for the family and says things are coming together.
“It was a frantic burst to begin with. The little bloke started school the other day and the school’s P and C helped with getting uniforms and books.
“Leanne still needs assistance and is in shock still – which you can understand.
"The community is still working together to help. They had house and contents insurance but I don’t know how much that covers and they also had a mortgage like most people," Mr Howard said.
Tenterfield councillor Gary Verri said a number of Tenterfield residents had put up their hand to help where they could.
The Stanthorpe Community Op Shop, Angels Hosting Angels and St Vincent de Paul along with local businesses and residents are working tirelessly to try help the family back on their feet.
