The weekend’s Willows Open simply added to that with 160 players involved in the two-day aggregate event.
Mother Nature threw a spanner in the works for some hopeful participants with around 80 withdrawals coming from Brisbane and the Northern Rivers owing to Cyclone Marcia.
As they battened down the hatches, 160 others hit the course for the four ball best ball Stableford event.
“It didn’t turn out too bad – numbers were slightly down obviously and profit down but it worked out alright and I think everyone enjoyed their stay,” competition organiser Michael Manser said.
Weather threatened to dampen the event but things played out favourably for the golfers as the rain threat cleared.
Tenterfield golfers were strongly represented in the winner’s circle after all was done and dusted.
The Open follows on from the hugely successful Pro-Am and Junior Tournament in recent months.
Michael said Tenterfield golf was on a high at the moment and were hopeful that would continue into their next event which will be the Ladies Open at the back end of March.
A year out and Mr Manser said that he already has 175 names down for next year’s Willows Open.
“It’s a really popular event – visitors enjoy coming and staying here. It’s good for the club and good for the other motels.”
