A new concept was introduced for junior club members called "Mini Fins" this season which brought together 30 new junior members that have come along leaps and bounds since the program’s inception.
“A number of local Tenterfield High School girls, who are also a part of our senior club, are a huge part of its success,” club coach Vicki Zappa said.
“They mentored the juniors in the pool each week to provide confidence and extend skills and creating an environment where the juniors tested themselves each week.”
Senior club members have also been kept busy this season.
“We had a group of around 18 consistent kids who trained several times each week developing skills and endurance in the pool to support their swimming,” she said.
A number of those swimmers have travelled to Glen Innes, Stanthorpe, Millmerran and Pittsworth to compete in various carnivals.
They’ve also attended Darling Downs development days and extra coaching sessions with Stanthorpe coach Gail Smail.
“We attended group fitness classes with "Think Fit’s" Karen Wells. Our pre-season put the kids into the pool so much fitter and stronger this season,” Ms Zappa said.
Swimming in Tenterfield is moving forward in a lot of ways according to Ms Zappa.
“We have some very enthusiastic, talented and committed kids who not only want to swim, train and compete but also love to create lifelong friendships in the process and have a healthy lifestyle as they develop.
“There are always improvements to be made in clubs, so we are hoping that next season is even more productive for our Tenterfield Swim Club,” she said.
Without parent commitment and help across the board Ms Zappa said they’ll struggle to continue to keep up the standard the club are being recognised for.
There will be an annual general meeting in the coming weeks.
“Please, if you can support this club in any way possible, it would be great to see some new faces to help out and support not only the kids of our club but a sport that has been a huge part of our local community for nearly 50 years,” Vicki said.
