For anyone who wants to lay the claim that soccer is a goalless bore then they should have been at Ballandean where 43 goals were scored across four games.
The Junior Colts got things underway and were hoping to bounce back from a tough first outing the previous week.
A grade and Colts coach Stan Hickey said it turned into an exciting encounter.
“It was a 10 all draw so it was obviously pretty entertaining,” Hickey said.
“Once we get a few more involved they’ll go alright.”
It was a day of weather extremes and Hickey said the Colts were forced to struggle through hot conditions.
“I was sitting in the dugout panting it was that hot,” he said.
With a few older heads and experience in the Senior Colts, Ballandean were able to assert themselves on the fixture.
“Gee they have some good players, some of them were showing off a bit but really had the right too,” Hickey said.
The game ended 10-3 to Ballandean.
The clouds came over and the ladies enjoyed most of their match before rain set in.
A physical Ballandean side were able to out-muscle an evolving Tenterfield ladies side and saw out the game with a 3-0 win.
The weather turned and referees were left with a decision to play or cancel the A grade fixture.
The game went ahead and Ballandean continued their day of dominance running out 7-0 winners.
“We’ve got to sort our team out and then I think things will become more promising. We had plenty of shots but our defence struggled,” Hickey said.
Ballandean goalkeeper Jeremy Willoughby put in a stellar performance to keep Tenterfield from nabbing a few consolation goals.
The Thunder will now have two weeks to prepare with the club left with a bye this weekend and an Easter break.
They’ll return to action at Shirley Park against Warwick Wolves on Sunday, April 12.
Mr Hickey said the club are still actively looking for players, especially in the two colts divisions and interested individuals should head down to training to register an interest.
