Competing in the district pairs at the Southern Downs District Ladies Bowls Association competition, Penny Stanbridge and Rita Kling beat everyone who came before them to claim the prize.
The pair won five games in order to take out the competition which brought together players from Warwick, Goondiwindi, Inglewood, The Summit, Clifton, Tannymorel and Stanthorpe.
The pair will now have the opportunity to compete at a state level, something that came as a shock to Rita.
“We came up against all the best players in the district and now have a chance to go to state,” Penny said.
“Something I hadn’t told you before Rita,” she broke the news.
The win continues Penny’s strong form in recent competitions.
“I won the singles competition here as well – I’m on a winning streak,” she said.
The competition took place over two days with the pair cleaning up on day one with three wins and followed it up with two the following day.
That included beating reigning champions Inglewood who were just one of 14 participating teams.
Rita and Penny will now weigh up their options and decide whether they can commit to participating in the state competition.
