Thousands have poured into the showgrounds over the last two years for the event and key organiser Rod Stanford said he’s counting the days until the 2015 outing.
“Everything is on track – I’m losing sleep as I always do this time of year,” Mr Stanford said.
“Word is getting about a bit now and we expect it to be bigger and better this year.”
While they won’t stray too far from the formula that has brought success to date, Rod is keen to build on the fire drum competition.
The winners will now take home a custom built trophy designed and constructed by Hillier Design.
“I approached them and they came up with the idea and design and donated the finished product back to the Lions club.”
Cash prizes, a holiday, hampers, honour, are all up for grabs in this year’s competition.
It has been broken into two divisions this year to allow for a novice section with Rod hopeful of attracting new designers.
This year’s Cracker Night will be held on Saturday, June 6 and will see the return of food, music and entertainment enjoyed in previous events.
Brisbane outfit, Sweatshop, are bringing the band back to town after winning over locals last year.
“We’ve had buses from Caloundra enquiring about the event – words starting to get around a bit,” Rod said.
Mr Stanford said Lions were in it for the long haul and sees the night as their prize annual event.
“We see this as a long term flagship event for the town – I think we’ve started a tradition… created a monster somehow.
“Everyone enjoys it and we get that much good feedback we have to keep at it,” he said.
People wanting to enter the fire drum competition can pick up entry forms from Barry’s Fuel, Tindall’s Fuel, Sexton and Green and New England Credit Union.
