Representatives from both groups met last week in a show of good faith to try create a road map forward.
TDVA president Peter Brier-Mills and Kim Rhodes met with councils Director of Strategic Planning and Environmental Services James Ruprai before holding similar discussions with other council delegates.
The pair met with Tourism Officer Caitlin Reid and Cultural and Business Services Officer Harry Bolton to mend any issues that may have resulted from ongoing circumstances surrounding the Tenterfield Visitors Centre.
“We want to implement what our members want and are trying to broker a deal and continue in a fresh new direction,” Mr Brier-Mills said.
“We’re after a bigger, brighter, better Tenterfield.
“We want to keep the communication lines open with council’s tourism department and ensure we work together,” he said.
It’s the first meeting the groups have held together for 12 months.
“The key thing is we are working to build on the relationship,” Ms Reid said.
“We want to ensure the relationship is positive – we are all working for the same thing,” she said.
The group has already brokered one deal with the TDVA signing on as a major sponsor for this year’s council run Tenterfield Business and Tourism Excellence Awards.
They will now report back to their respective organisations about what was discussed.
Despite the meetings the TDVA remain committed to a motion forged during their special general meeting held two weeks ago.
The motion says they’ll continue operating the Visitors Centre until October 2016 and re-evaluate their position after council elections.
