The junior colts continue to struggle with player numbers with the club left without reserves in Sunday’s game.
“We had 15 at training but 11 turn up which was disappointing,” club coach Stan Hickey said.
“They were a bit faster and technically a bit more sound – but we’re playing football and managing to string passes together which is good.
“It’s a work in progress,” he said.
The side lost their game but Hickey says the kids are still enjoying the chance to play against strong opponents.
The senior colts were left to lament a golden opportunity gone to waste as they could only muster a 1-1 draw with a 10-man City side.
“I don’t know where we were – we had a shocker,” Hickey said.
Tenterfield beat the same side 8-4 a few weeks back and Hickey said they must have done some homework to turn the tide.
“They really marked our strikers out of the game – it’s obvious they identified where the threats were in our side.
“We probably took them a little lightly,” he said.
The ladies continue to be a force with a calculated performance over their City counterparts.
Tenterfield notched a 5-1 win and performed well throughout.
“There was a good flow to the game – our girls are playing good football dropping mistakes and playing well as a team,” Hickey said.
City’s A-grade continues to climb the point’s ladder as they outshone an understrength Tenterfield side winning 8-1.
“It was a heaps better performance defensively by our midfield – we seemed to have more bodies.”
It wasn’t enough as City’s Andrew Volpato and Lachie Gavin controlled much of the play.
“He (Volpato) was just smashing through our fellas – we just don’t possess the speed and aggressiveness that other teams do.
“We just find ourselves getting knocked off the ball – I think the competition has become more physical,” Hickey said.
Tenterfield will dust themselves off and go again this Saturday as they play Ballandean at Ballandean in all grades.
