Killarney prop John Trindall and Stanthorpe halfback Jason Wilmot were both selected for the Queensland Outback rugby league side to play at Thursday Island next month.
Both played for the South West Country side in the Outback Carnival at Mt Isa.
South West Country won the carnival with a 26-16 victory against Central West and a 16-4 win against Mid-West.
They lost 36-12 to Mt Isa but won the carnival on a countback after Central West beat Mt Isa in a round game.
Tenterfield based South West coach Graham 'Butch' Smith said he couldn’t fault his players.
The Border players in the winning team were Trindall, Wilmot and Tenterfield trio Brendan Minns, Jake Kelly and Jim Loneragan.
Smith said all five could have made the Outback side.
The Border Rugby League returns to club footy this weekend where the Tenterfield Tigers come up against Stanthorpe.
The Tigers will host the fixture at Rugby League Park and captain/coach Brendan Minns said he expected a tough bout.
“If we can improve on our first half efforts against them last time and defend better we’ll be a whole lot better for it,” he said.
Stanthorpe are looking to continue a lengthy winning streak after they downed Wallangarra last weekend in bizarre circumstances.
Rams player Marc McGrady was put on report at the 60 minute mark for a dangerous tackle on Stanthorpe’s Brad Crisp.
The referee decided he’d seen enough and stopped the game and awarded Stanthorpe a win after it led by 12 points.
The referee is understood to have called the game short after conceding he couldn’t control the players.
The Toowoomba Rugby League Match Review Committee has cleared the referee of any wrong-doing.
