The Mole and Sovereign Rivers Red Cross is a very small branch of the Australian Red Cross located west of Tenterfield.
In 2011 the group wrote and published ‘Just Picked’ and sold out every copy in a matter of months.
“The book was focused on using local produce that could be grown within the Tenterfield district, using up seasonal gluts of fruit and vegetables. A major feature of the book was the scenic images of the district,” group member, Philippa Lillyman said.
Following on from this success they are about to launch a sequel.
Over the last six months members have met in various locations around the Tenterfield district with their baskets and eskies full of food and ideas for picnics.
“The new book ‘Just Picnics’ again focuses on the use of locally grown produce and the recipes are mostly designed to be quick and easy to make,” Ms Lillyman said.
“The Tenterfield district is alive with destinations that are ideal for picnics, with many beautiful national parks full of topographically challenging walks, granite outcrops, spectacular flora and local wildlife.
“Everyone has their own idea of the perfect picnic and this book will assist in creating happy memories for all involved,” she said.
The Honourable Penelope Wensley has been invited to launch the book at a picnic lunch on Saturday, August 1 at Mole Station.
Ms Wensley was Queensland’s Governor from 2008 until last year, succeeding former Tenterfield girl Quentin Bryce in the role.
Ms Lillyman said the group is thrilled to have the former Governor launch their book.
“We are delighted.
“She has had an extremely distinguished career representing Australia as a diplomat, has international recognition for her contribution to the United Nations, and is involved with the promotion of environmental knowledge and awareness,” she said.
Bookings for the picnic are essential for entry.
