Ballandean’s senior colts forfeited points while the ladies game was postponed to a later day.
The junior colts were first cab off the rank and continue to show signs of improvement.
“It was a good little game of football,” club coach Stan Hickey said.
“Everyone is saying how pleasing their development has been – they were knocking the ball around but weren’t quite strong enough to match it.”
Ballandean streaked away with a 6-0 win.
Tenterfield’s senior colts have all but wrapped up their finals spot with a forfeit handing them three points and three free goals.
Hickey said his side were disappointed not to get a game under their belts and lamented the stop-start nature of this season’s competition.
“I don’t think we’ve played two weeks in a row,” he said.
His side managed to get in one catch up game last week when they welcomed Stanthorpe United to Shirley Park last Wednesday evening.
The Thunder dominated large parts of the game but came unstuck late on.
United were gifted a penalty to bring the game back to 2-1 before Josh Crestani hit an equaliser with the last kick of the game.
The ladies side will play their own catch up when they travel to Ballandean tonight.
In Saturday’s other game the men’s side showed further improvement when they faced off with third place Ballandean.
“The game was travelling at 2-1 for most of the game and then they got a penalty,” Hickey said.
A 3-1 deficit proved too difficult to overcome and Ballandean nicked a fourth late on.
Hickey said he couldn’t fault the effort of his players.
“The boys really lifted for the game and communication made a big difference – the highlight was really the game both teams played,” he said.
This weekend will see International Club head south to Shirley Park.
The clubs two senior colt’s sides will contest the Brendan Sweetman Memorial Trophy.
“It will be a low key thing and not a big hoo-ha.
“We just want to remember a boy who played for both clubs and had success at both,” Hickey said.
