But Qantas boss Alan Joyce was willing to get up and personal with Sydney Airport chief executive Kerrie Mather on Tuesday after striking what they trumpeted as a "win-win" deal for both sides.

The airport has bought Qantas' long-term lease on terminal three from the airline for $535 million.

Speaking to media on a phone line from a conference room that became difficult to hear, Joyce and Mather had to literally bend over a microphone to make sure they were audible.

"Myself and Kerrie have had a close relationship … [and] getting even closer on this call," Joyce gushed.

"We're right on top of it. We're nearly hugging actually."

He later admitted that while he loved Mather's perfume, they were probably a little too close.

Postage paid

It pays being a postie, just look at Australia Post's top mailman, Ahmed Fahour.

Fahour pocketed $4.6 million in 2014, so CBD asked some of his global peers if they thought taxpayers were getting enough bang for their buck.

Gary Edstein, the Oceania chief executive for Deutsche Post-owned DHL, declined to comment on Fahour's package.

But he was happy to point CBD to Deutsche Post's accounts to offer a comparison. (That's if you can compare a global logistics behemoth, which employs about 500,000 people, with Australia Post, which has about 37,000 staff on its books).

The total remuneration of Deutsche's chief executive, Frank Appel, was €6.35 million ($9.5 million) in 2014.

"It's a pretty good salary for the size of the business. When you talk about Deutsche Post, we're a 55 billion euro [business] and we employ nearly 500,000 staff," said Edstein in a briefing with DHL Asia chief executive Jerry Hsu.

"I think Frank has a decent package, Jerry has a decent package as well."

To which Hsu replied: "They're all very decent."

Edstein: "It depends on who's looking at it … it all depends on performance. It's fixed and variable."

Fahour – who is spending up to $190 million slashing almost 2000 jobs in response to a diving volumes in its letters business, which has racked losses of more than $1.5 billion in the past five years – must be doing a good job then.

Bond, Alan Bond … to Hollywood

Having been Alan Bond's chauffeur for many years, the colourful businessman Jim Byrnes may use the experience as the basis of his now booming film career.

He has been working with Kongzilla entertainment since July 2013, which has a slate of 10 movies to be made in the US, and big Jim will will have co-producer status on selected projects.

He is working overseas, but said in an email that the company funds only low-budget movies that will have some chance of gaining an audience.

The company's finance conditions are as follows: one or two bankable leads committed with letter of intent; tax rebate approved from a US State, normally 25 per cent of audited film budget and a pre-sale agreement with a foreign film sales company to 75 per cent of film budget.

"Essentially what Kongzilla do is fund 100 per cent of what is to come in once movie is complete and final audit of expenses provided to the state," he told CBD.

But he said that unfortunately "despite a low dollar, a fantastic pool of talent in front and behind the camera, Australia does not do enough to incentivise small movies production". 

Doing it tough

It is not just the players from the Greater Western Sydney AFL team who have started training hard for this weekend's derby against the Sydney Swans.
