TENTERFIELD Police say they are paying close attention to roads at the extremities of town after concerns were raised over reckless driving.

“It has come to the attention of police that there is evidence of motorists performing burnouts at intersections on the extremities of town,” A Tenterfield Police spokesperson said.
“Police would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that it is an offence to perform a `burnout' and those who are caught committing this offence will be charged.
“If (you’re) found committing an ‘aggravated burnout' there is an additional penalty as well as being charged and having to attend court.
“Those committing an aggravated burnout will have either their vehicle impounded or registration plate seized. The costs for impound and towing will be at the expense of the owner.”
On Wednesday, August 5 a 17-year-old Queensland male was charged with Burnout and suspended driving when detected by an off duty police officer performing a burnout in Logan Street.
In other incidents a 45-year-old Orange woman was issued a fine for in excess of $2000 and had her licence immediately suspended for six months after being detected travelling at 153km/h on the New England Hwy by Tenterfield Highway Patrol at Dundee on Wednesday, August 12.
A 30-year-old female from Jennings faced court on August 12 charged with the offence of common assault (domestic violence related). She pleaded guilty to the offence and was placed on a 12 month Section 9 bond. She also has to comply with an apprehended domestic violence order.
A 66-year-old Smithtown man faced court on the same day and was charged with drive whilst never licensed. He was detected driving by Tenterfield Highway Patrol in Tenterfield. He was convicted and the matter has been adjourned for sentencing.
A 52-year-old man from Inverell was due to face court on August 12 for driving with a high range prescribed concentration of alcohol. He is alleged to have been driving in Tenterfield when he was picked up by local police. A warrant has been issued by the court.
A 17-year-old male was due to face Tenterfield Children’s Court on Thursday, August 13 for numerous property offences. All matters have been listed for a hearing at a later date.
On August 13 a 38-year-old male was due to appear at court for breaching an apprehended domestic violence order. He failed to attend and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
