New England Mutual in Tenterfield was watching cupcakes trot out the door as its regulars got behind the cause.
Branch manager Kelly-Anne Butler said this was the first year the store had supported the RSPCA fundraiser and hopefully not their last.
It’s a sweet way to give mistreated, abandoned and abused animals a second chance at life.
“We thought we’d do something little – cupcakes are not hard to sell,” Ms Butler said.
She said “everyone loves there animals” so it was a cause they were eager to support.
The branch managed to raise $210 from their $2 cupcakes and it follows an equally successful Jeans for Genes fundraiser recently that saw them raise $300.
“We’ve done the Relay for Life, Biggest Morning Tea… we like to do a few,” Kelly-Anne said.
Cupcake Day for the RSPCA was a great excuse to get together with family, friends and colleagues to eat the sugary treats.
The official day for Cupcake Day was Monday but the RSPCA have encouraged people to hold one at any time during August.
Nationally, over $420,000 has so far been raised from the event.
Last year the event raised $1.5 million to help more than 130,000 animals at RSPCA shelters across Australia.
An RSPCA spokesperson said they count on the support from things like their cupcake day.
“Without the public’s support for our fundraising events there would be nowhere for these animals to turn to when they are abandoned, abused or unwanted.
“We wouldn’t be able to investigate allegations of cruelty and neglect.
“We wouldn’t be able to reach remote communities with education programs and desexing, microchipping and vaccination initiatives,” the spokesperson said.
