The female-centric ‘Ladies Day Out’ will run from the Showground Pavilion and feature cooking demonstrations, fashion parades, make-up tutorials, massage, fine dining, entertainment and more.
The event is all in aid of the Tenterfield Cancer Support Group.
“I just wanted to do a fun day for the town,” organiser Sarah Chapman said.
“I had a hunt around for a group to support and the hospital directed me back to these guys. They support young and old suffering from cancer.
“I didn’t want to send the money out of the community – was a bit of a midnight idea admittedly,” she said.
Not only will the support group benefit, but local businesses who Sarah has urged to get on board.
“We’ll have at least 16 stalls displaying and showcasing on the day – I tried to keep it mainly local.
“The focus is on early Christmas shopping so local at-home businesses that might be doing candles, Tupperware, a massage business or running a craft business from home can display.
“Bring your Christmas list and take advantage of some early shopping,” Sarah said.
Tenterfield Cancer Support Group secretary Thea McKenzie said they were thrilled to be getting the backing.
“We are very pleased that the ladies thought of us and whatever funds are raised will go towards helping people living with cancer, palliative illness or post operatively to be more comfortable in their own homes.
“We have many items that we loan out to people who require them free of charge. We have been able to help many people and they find our service very helpful in their time of need,” Ms McKenzie said.
Sarah said it’s amazing the amount of people in Tenterfield dealing with cancer in their life.
“The more people you talk to the more you find out about who are affected by cancer,” she said.
“We’re hoping this will become an annual or biennial thing.”
Attendees have been encouraged to dress up for the affair.
“Of course we want people to dress up for the day and we didn’t want to create an environment where people just come and sit down – we want them to get up and mingle,” Sarah said.
Leave the partner, kids or pets at home and head down to the Showgrounds on Sunday, September 13 for the event.
