The branch hosted a 100 target sporting clay event on Saturday with participants travelling from all over the state and across the border.
“It went quite well, numbers were down slightly but we still did okay,” a Sporting Shooters Association of Australia Tenterfield Branch spokesperson said.
“People had a good time and the weather was good to us.”
The spokesperson said they believed a stacked schedule for the regions shooters might have been a player in why numbers didn’t exceed expectation.
‘It’s a fairly full calendar and a pricey thing to do. There was shoots either side of our weekend.”
Despite that the branch is already holding discussions about a similar event for early next year.
“We’ll try another event early in the new year before temperatures drop. It will be another clay event, the problem is finding the correct slot,” the spokesperson said.
The field of shooters was varied with participants ranging in age from twenties to seventies.
A shooter from the Coffs Harbour club took out the top honours.
The branch spokesperson said Coffs Harbour sent their club north for the event while around 20 locals participated.
Organisers were pleased to attract spectators for the day-long event and are hopeful some may look to participate next time around.
In the meantime the club will now prepare for an archery ‘come and try day’ at the club on November 14.
