The group met last week to nut out ideas for other programs on their radar but one event at the top of their priority list is a walk to highlight the increasing issue that is domestic violence.
The walk would be a follow-up on last year’s October 25 march from Bruxner to Millbrook Park.
The peaceful protest attracted approximately 50 people to participate.
“The plan was to always do it as an annual event,” Tenterfield Hospital Health Services manager Michael Moore said.
“Our focus is always that old adage ‘the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing’. People of this community abhor domestic violence,” Mr Moore said.
Further planning is needed but the group are aiming to hold the event on November 7.
The committee said they were also working away at a number of other ‘special issues’ – chief among them upgrades to the Tenterfield airport.
“We’re a conduit between the health service and the community,” general manager Tablelands sector for Hunter New England Wendy Mulligan said.
Committee chair John Brown said upgrades to the isolation ward was another issue of focus.
“We’ve been trying to get it preserved through heritage funding. It’s a major project and we’ve been liaising with the heritage committee to do it.”
One highlight has been the ongoing renovation of the new hospital flat/motel accommodation which Mr Moore said was ‘nearing completion’.
