The clubs committee were confident in the lead up to the annual event but was pipped to the top prize.
The club was one of four finalists for the award of Best Community Racing Club in NSW, eventually going to the Adaminaby Racing Club.
Club secretary Milton King attended the soiree at Sydney’s Four Seasons on Friday.
“Unfortunately we didn't win. The standard was very high and to be a finalist was rewarding,” he said.
“The great thing I learned was that the small clubs like our own are thriving and becoming extremely popular.”
Mr King said annual race days such as Tabulam’s have had to work to attract new audiences.
“We have all re-invented ourselves as family days and the past three years has seen the turnaround and as I said, small race clubs are now flourishing.
“Mind you, the buses are now coming again, but not from pubs. They are with family groups, work groups, groups of friends, businesses bringing their staff in lieu of Christmas parties, that sort of thing.
“We are very proud of what we have achieved at Tabulam Racing Club. Our patrons keep increasing every year and we now have over 2000 patrons on race day.
“We have worked very hard at promoting the weekend as a family weekend. We encourage families and kids and provide entertainment for them on race day,” Milton said.
The award news comes a month from Tabulam's annual race day, which is scheduled for November 7.
“The races are coming along smoothly, expecting at least 2000 patrons, expecting 500 campers for the weekend.
“We have free camping on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with hot showers and toilet facilities available.
There’s also plenty of food, drinks, bookmakers and full TAB facilities available for hopeful punters.
