Organisers said they were “over the moon” with the huge response and admit they didn’t expect anywhere near that many to attend.
“We’re stoked – we think we’re achieving something for people here,” Bob Rogan from SSAA Tenterfield said.
Ages varied, as did experience and aptitude, but Mr Rogan says it was all just a bit of fun.
“We had kids probably six or seven… through to adults. All ends of the spectrum which is really what we want.”
Bob and wife Marian also brought in Brett Dowd to help coach throughout the day.
“The guy was flat out so we really appreciate his help – what a start though.
“We’ve had contact from the Stanthorpe archery club to say well done.”
Bob says their hopeful of giving kids an outlet to try something new and exciting while also making friends.
“We had mums who brought out multiple kids – it’s an outlet for children.
“I spoke to one lady who said she’d tried getting her daughter into the backyard to do it but she’d get bored in five minutes. She said the interaction with other kids really helped and she was out there for hours.”
Due to the success the club has scheduled another ‘come and try’ which will be held on Sunday, December 6 from 1pm at the club on Bellevue Rd.
