“This is a project I have been working hard to deliver since coming home to the New England, so I am delighted to see this money will provide planning certainty for the project and ensure we reserve land for future road construction,” Mr Joyce said.
“The $10 million will go towards detailed planning and site acquisition to make the project shovel ready in two years’ time.”
Mr Joyce said NSW Roads and Maritime Services identified a preferred route for the future heavy vehicle bypass and workshops have been held in the town to further discuss the project.
“I was pleased to welcome a delegation from the Tenterfield Shire Council on June 15, lobbying for funding for the bypass and the Northern Growth corridor on the Mount Lindesay Road between Legume and Woodenbong.”
He said the preferred bypass route started and ended close to the town centre, had the least environmental impact and provided the best value for money.
Tenterfield Shire Council Mayor Peter Petty applauded the announcement.
“This funding will continue the process of developing the bypass and help to secure jobs and growth for Tenterfield,” Cr Petty said.
“It’s a huge go-forward for the town.”
Cr Petty said the bypass has been talked about for 60 years and credit must go to the current council for not shifting in its determination to support the project.
